Overseas Community Project (OCP) 

This project was held during the holidays from 5th March till 15th April.

- Preparation for the project: 5th March till 4th April

- Execution of the project: 5th April till 15th April

The overseas exchange program was about cross-cultural understanding, and Temasek Polytechnic students hosted it. The participants were Vietnamese students from Le Quy Don High School. I am grateful to be able to interact with the students from Le Quy Don High school, even though it is an online exchange program. Before the event, we had to develop course materials and present the slides to the Vietnamese students during the six-day event. After sharing with the Vietnamese students about the 7 dimensions, we had to work on a project and compare the cultural differences between two countries. Thereafter, we will present the project together to the rest of the Temasek Polytechnic students and the Vietnamese students. 

After the whole exchange program, I felt it was a successful event as the Vietnamese students enjoyed the entire program. Furthermore, I was also able to learn more about their culture. I look forward to more exchange programs like this.

 

 

7 DimensionS of Culture

Dimension 1: Universalism vs Particularism ( Measures how cultures defines fairness)

 

• Universalism people would follow the rule

• Particularism people would see the Situation and they value relationships more
   

Dimension 2: Individualism vs Communitarianism ( Measures how cultures organise people)

 

• Individualism people work for their own success

• Communitarianism people world depend on their team to succeed

Dimension 3: Neutral vs Affective ( Measures how cultures express emotions)
 

• Neutral people would tend to keep emotions to themselves

• Affective people would snow emotions openly
   

Dimension 4: Specific vs Diffuse (Measures how cultures build relationships)
 

• Specific people build relationships from different places like work and personal life

• Diffuse people build relationships together from work and Personal life together
   

Dimension 5: Achievement vs Ascription ( Measures how cultures give status )
 

• Achievement people would work hard for that particular position in that company 

• Ascription people would depend on others to fight for that position in a company

 

Dimension 6: Internal vs External ( Measures how cultures deal with challenges)
 

• Internal people would change the environment to achieve their desired goal

• External people would deal with the challenge by adapting to the environment

 

Dimension 7: Sequential vs Synchronic ( Measures how cultures organiser or use time)
 

• Sequential people like events that happen in order

• Synchronic people would see the past, present, and the future
